What is Motor truck cargo insurance?

Motor truck cargo insurance covers a trucking company's legal liability for loss of or damage to the freight it hauls for others.

Under the Carmack Amendment, 49 U.S.C. 14706, an interstate carrier is liable for actual loss or injury to the property it carries, with some exceptions.

Federal rules require a cargo filing only for household goods carriers. Brokers and shippers often set their own cargo limits in contracts.
