Paccar recalls 26,729 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks over a fuel hose that can leak

What it means for small fleets

NHTSA says Paccar is recalling 26,729 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks because a remote fuel filter hose may separate from its fitting, causing a fuel leak and an engine stall.

What happened

Paccar is recalling 26,729 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks because the remote fuel filter hose may separate from its fitting, causing a fuel leak and an engine stall, according to NHTSA recall 26V700. The recall covers certain Kenworth T270 and T370 (model years 2022 and 2023), Kenworth T280 and Peterbilt 548 (2022 through 2027), Kenworth T380 and T480 and Peterbilt 536 and 537 (2023 through 2027), and Peterbilt 567 (2025) trucks. Dealers will replace the fuel hoses free of charge, and NHTSA says owner letters will be mailed beginning Dec. 20, 2026. Land Line reported the recall on Oct. 28 and says it follows a September Cummins recall of L9 engines.

Why it matters

NHTSA says a fuel leak near an ignition source increases the risk of a fire, and an engine stall increases the risk of a crash. Land Line reports Paccar estimates only 3% of the recalled trucks have the defect, and that drivers may smell diesel, see the leak or get a low fuel pressure warning. Land Line says there have been no reports of warranty claims or injuries. Paccar's recall number is 26PACJ, and Kenworth (425-828-5888) and Peterbilt (940-591-4220) take questions on it.

What to consider

Run each Kenworth and Peterbilt VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup now rather than waiting for the December letter, tell drivers to report any diesel smell or low fuel pressure warning, and keep the dealer repair record with the truck's maintenance records, which 49 CFR 396.3 requires carriers to keep.
