FMCSA defends pulling four CDL schools from its training registry
FreightFiles reports FMCSA filed responses defending its emergency removal of four entry-level driver training providers from the Training Provider Registry.
What happened
FMCSA's Office of Safety Programs filed responses defending its Aug. 31 emergency removal of four entry-level driver training providers from the Training Provider Registry, FreightFiles reports. The four are Red Hook Commercial Driving School, Western Area Career & Technology Center, EP Texas Trucking School and United CDL Training School. In the Red Hook filing, FMCSA said an August audit found 22 trainees the school certified were later cited for English language proficiency violations.
Why it matters
FMCSA used the emergency removal rule in 49 CFR 380.723(e), which skips the usual correction period. English language proficiency is a driver qualification rule under 49 CFR 391.11(b)(2), and FMCSA's Chief Safety Officer will issue a final decision on each school's petition for reinstatement.
What to consider
Before you hire a new CDL driver, check that the school that trained them is still listed on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry, and follow the docket for the final decisions. FMCSA Training Provider Registry · Red Hook docket on Regulations.gov
